Many locals are already familiar with this place, formerly known as “la grotte aux fondues”. The restaurant’s appearance has hardly changed, with its vaulted ceilings, bistro chairs, exposed stone walls, and rustic decor. It continues to be a charming spot where one feels right at home.
The Caves Bazeilles is currently the trendy place to be. On Thursday evenings, it transforms into a festive hangout for “bon vivants”, offering a 20 € deal that includes all-you-can-eat meals and your first drink. Here you’ll find rustic, traditional cuisine made from high-quality ingredients.
My Expérience
As the place is quite popular, booking in advance is essential. The atmosphere is friendly and welcoming.
We were seated in a cozy room downstairs, where the exposed stone walls reminded us of the old premises. We started with some excellent appetizers to share: bone marrow, snails, and gratinated mussels.
The wine selection advice was spot-on, and the meat, best enjoyed with a good glass of red wine, was excellent.
Next came the choice of the main course. A nice touch here is that you choose your main dish (fish, meat, etc.), and then a selection of sides is offered.
Special mention goes to the truffle gnocchi. I highly recommend them!
We enjoyed a superb meal at this traditional Toulon restaurant, and the bill was reasonable for the quality of service. In summary, you’re sure to leave satisfied.
Apparently, they serve an excellent brunch every Sunday, which I have yet to try.
